Exhibition: BABIN KUK - PLANNING OF THE UTOPIA: 50 Years Since the Construction of the Hotel and Tourism Centre

ree

On Thursday, October 30th, we are opening an exhibition dedicated to the planning, construction, and operation of the Hotel and Tourism Complex Babin Kuk. The Lapad peninsula development was envisioned and designed by numerous local and international experts, with more than three thousand workers and engineers involved in its construction at the same time. Its opening in June 1976 shaped the entertainment and social life of the city. It became a meeting place for Dubrovnik’s residents and their guests, who together created lifelong memories in its hotels, restaurants, bars, promenades, and parks.

The exhibition presents fifty years of history of this space—designed for maximum quality and functionality—through texts, photographs, newspaper articles, and objects: from its design and never fully completed construction, to its lively entertainment scene, and the wartime and post-war years.

The exhibition is authored by Ivan Lujo, historian and curator at the Red History Museum, and Krunoslav Šmit, professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. The exhibition design is by Studio Bonsenjo.

The exhibition will remain open until the beginning of December.
